Hindu Temple – Plumstead, Woolwich

Redevelopment of an existing converted 1960’s building suffering from concrete deterioration. This project is unique in that it is being developed by the community, some of the volunteers have given up their day job. The project provided difficult challenges involving supporting a vertical excavation of 11m in height along a school playground. The sloping site meant that reaction piled walls were required to support the base of the double line of props.

As a community building emphasis was to provide long span spaces with minimum number of columns; the main hall was to be column free.
